Preliminary Ratings: Sunday 09/28/14

FOX capitalizing on the NFL overrun and the hyped-up SIMPSONS/FAMILY GUY crossover, as the network was a close second in both total viewers and young demographic ratings. THE SIMPSONS and the one hour FAMILY GUY each drew 8.5 million viewers, while THE SIMPSONS demo rating was 3.9, the FAMILY GUY crossover commanded a 4.5, in the A18-49 ratings. Both veteran series are up by double digit percentages, from last year's premieres, in both reported categories.

Sitting in between the two animated comedies was the second season premiere of BROOKLYN NINE-NINE. The 2.6 demo rating it collected was even with the season premiere, last year. it is a far cry better than what the series had averaged over the course of last season, on Tuesday nights. but, a 35% drop from THE SIMPSONS is not encouraging for the long term.

ABC's three premieres came with mixed results. ONCE UPON A TIME gained 800,000 viewers and 31% in the demo, over 2013's season premiere. Perhaps adding the FROZEN characters to the storyline will help bring back the ratings dominance the series had, once upon a time...

At 9 p.m., RESURRECTION premiered to 7.6 million viewers and a 2.3 score int he A18-49 ratings. Compared to the first season finale, the series is down a half million viewers, but up 10% in the demo. Given that next week will have a drop in the ratings, RESURRECTION is headed in the wrong direction.

Veteran drama REVENGE was ABC's lowest rated program of the night, drawing just 5.3 million viewers and a 1.4 demo rating. That is not far off from last year's premiere numbers. The series did stay even with CSI, for the hour, in the A18-49 ratings.

CBS's numbers, naturally, fell from last week. The lack of an NFL lead in, and the nature of second episodes, pushed MADAM SECRETARY down two million viewers and 30% in the A18-49 ratings. All things considered, MADAME SECRETARY faired relatively well, in week two.

Not airing at 10 p.m. , allowed week two of THE GOOD WIFE to stay even with last week's ratings. CBS's strengths for Sunday nights will be the female demographics, giving up the male demos to Football and FOX.
