US Box Office Results: August 22 - 24, 2014

The second to last weekend of the official summer movie season saw GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY return to the #1 spot, after a two week absence. The hit Marvel movie collected $17.6 million on its fourth weekend out and has a grand domestic total of just under $252 million. That places it as the #1 movie of the summer season and is just eight million dollars behind the #1 movie of the year.

Two new releases made the top five. Drama IF I STAY collected over five million dollars more than its production budget, for the #3 spot. The Jim Caviezel sports drama, WHEN THE GAME STANDS TALL, placed fifth on the weekend, drawing $9 million.

The heavily hyped SIN CITY sequel, A DAME TO KILL, was flat at the box office, getting just $6.5 million and placing 8th on the weekend.
